Icon Rocklear, PPF or Ceramic: Which Fits You?
All three protect paint. They are not interchangeable, and the right one depends on what you want to protect against.
Ceramic coating is the lightest option. It adds gloss and makes the car much easier to wash. It does not stop rock chips.
Icon Rocklear is a much thicker coating. It gives you a coating’s gloss and easy cleaning with more resistance to light scratches, chemicals and minor impacts, and it covers the whole car in one package starting at $1,800, with glass and wheel faces coated too.
Paint protection film is the strongest defence against rock chips. It is a physical layer, so it absorbs impacts that would get through any coating. It costs more per panel, which is why most people film the front end only.
Honestly, if your main worry is highway rock chips on the hood and bumper, film is the better tool for that area. Many owners combine them: PPF on the front, Rocklear or ceramic on the rest. Tell us how you drive and we will tell you what makes sense.
What the Manufacturer's Warranty Covers
Icon Rocklear comes with a manufacturer’s warranty: 15 years on paint and 7 years on gelcoat, plus lifetime workmanship. These are Icon Rocklear’s own terms, not a separate shop guarantee, and like any warranty they depend on the manufacturer’s conditions. Ask us for the details when you book so you know exactly what is covered for your vehicle.
How We Apply Icon Rocklear
- Wash and decontaminate. A thorough wash, door jambs, wheels and engine bay, then the paint is clayed smooth.
- Polish. The paint is polished to bring up the gloss. A coating locks in whatever is under it, so this step matters.
- Apply Rocklear. Icon Rocklear goes on the paint, with ceramic coating on the glass, lights and wheel faces.
- Cure and hand over. The coating needs time to cure. We will tell you how to treat the car in the first days after pickup.
Aftercare
Rocklear makes washing easier, but it still needs washing. Hand wash with a pH-neutral soap, dry with clean microfibre, and get bird droppings and sap off promptly. Skipping brush car washes keeps the finish looking its best for longer.
