The drive from University Place

Most drivers head east to SR 16 and pick up I-5 toward East Tacoma. Depending on where you start, you might go another way. The directions button below will sort out the best route.

We do not offer mobile service. You drive in, and the car is worked on inside our shop where the conditions are controlled.

Salt air, moisture and glare

Cars parked near salt water collect a fine salty film, especially after windy days. Moisture keeps it sitting on the paint and in the gaps around trim. Over time that dulls the finish and can speed up corrosion on any chip that has gone through to bare metal.

A ceramic coating gives the paint a slick layer so that film washes off more easily. PPF on the front end keeps chips from opening the paint up in the first place. Neither one replaces rinsing the car regularly, especially underneath. We would rather say that plainly than oversell a coating.

Sun reflecting off the water is the other thing people mention. Window tint takes the edge off glare and heat.

If your car lives outside near the water, check the paint now and then for small chips around the front and the lower doors. A chip that reaches bare metal is where rust starts, and it is much cheaper to deal with early. We can point out any we see when you drop the car off.

Does ceramic coating protect against salt air?

It helps the salty film wash off and keeps it from bonding as easily. It does not seal the underside or stop rust on an existing chip, so regular rinsing still matters.

My car is brand new. Is now the right time?

New is the easiest time to protect paint, because there is little to correct first. We still inspect it, since new cars can arrive with marks from transport or the dealer wash.
